Scaling Hell’s Backbone
– 3000 Feet of Vertical Pleasure
(a Silver Reef Extension) Prepare
to be dazzled by slick rock on this steeply–pitched
route. Its like a giant, scrambled, 3000-foot-high
staircase that winds into heaven. You’ll
scramble up red-rock ridgelines, ascend
slick-rock escarpments, and climb crumbly
mountain slopes, and ultimately reach the
best summit views in the region. The full
magnitude of Color Country’s potential
for visual imagery is “on parade”
on this new, vertically-sloped trek. It
will make you forget the almost certain
aching in your lungs and thighs. This is
not for those with a fear of heights. You’ll
don a harness near the summit to conquer
“Hell’s Last Step”, a
feat of bravery that is sure yield an “aaah”
or a “woah” or at least a well-deserved
“ata-boy”.
